The Lawyer

Matthew A. Rakes

Professional Attorney & Mediator

Matthew A. Rakes has lived in the Coeur d’Alene area for more than 30 years along with many members of his extended family. Matt graduated North Idaho College in 1997 with an Associate’s Degree then went on to work for the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office for more than 17 years. Matt graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2006, after attending school while working full-time.

He attended Gonzaga University School of Law, where he graduated with honors in 2013. Matt was licensed to practice law in Idaho that same year and in Washington the following year. While attending law school, Matt gained valuable experience in elder law, probate, and family matters while representing at University Legal Assistance (the pro-bono and low-income clinic operated out of the law school).

In November of 2014, Matt opened his own law office in the Spokane Valley where he handled a variety of legal matters with a focus on family law, landlord-tenant matters, and estate planning. Matt owned and operated the solo-practice from 2014 through the end of 2015. While his practice was based in Washington, Matt participated actively with the Spokane County Volunteer Lawyer’s Program. He was honored as one of the volunteer lawyers of the year for 2015.

Matt joined Amendola, Doty & Brumley, PLLC in January, 2016 where he worked to serve the Coeur d’Alene community for more than five years. He brings those years of combined experience in conflict resolution, legal expertise, and problem solving to help clients search for creative solutions to problems both as an attorney and a mediator.
